I love fashion. It’s art you can wear, for goodness sakes.

Anyway, I’ve been completely floored by the couture shows I’ve seen premiere this week, especially Armani Privé and Christian Dior. One is sixties modern, the other is 2060 modern. Both are absolutely, unexpectedly gorgeous. Visit the links and watch the looks move. Seriously.

I also threw in a couple of Jill Sander pieces from the 2011 ready-to-wear collection. I love stripes. I couldn’t help myself.

Confession: I steal paint samples whenever I can.

I guess it isn’t stealing (since they’re free), but I don’t use them for their intended purposes. I use them for bookmarks!

Don’t ask me why, but bookmarks have always mattered to me. I like them plain, not to compete with the book covers. I like them sturdy, because I use and reuse them. I like to be able to match or complement the colors of the books themselves. Maybe I’m a little too visual/OCD.

Anyway, as far as I’m concerned, the best bookmarks in the world can be found in the paint aisle of your local hardware store. The names aren’t bad either - Bumble Bee, Orchid Bouquet, Fired Steel, Dive In, Green Fancy, Transatlantic, Freckles.

Texas caviar.

No-cook overnight oats.

No scurvy here.

Scone. Yum.

Snow days are beautiful things. My mother’s snow day tradition is homemade cinnamon rolls, so I thought I would fill my day with new recipes.

Last night I made bean salsa/Texas caviar. The usual black bean-cherry tomato-corn-purple onion-bell pepper-jalapeno-banana pepper-cilantro-garlic-olive oil-vinegar mix. Eating by color at its best.

I tried this no-cook overnight oatmeal for breakfast. Not bad, but not my favorite.

Finally, I used clementines to make these delicious scones.

I don’t mean to keep talking about my favorite blogs, but here I am again. I check The Sartorialist’s simple, stunning photographic blog daily. Thus, I was pleased to find this post about author/photographer Scott Schuman’s creative vision and process.

Also, I found this little gem of a flowchart (via the aforementioned Ginny Branch Stelling’s blog) about how to catch the Sartorial eye and make it on the website. If only.

My favorite blog of today is Ginny Branch Stelling’s photo/lifestyle/design/etcetera “my favorite color is shiny” confection. Great variety. Great taste. She is a former SCAD student. Need I say more?

I’m at an age where much of my life is meant to be decided. I’ll change jobs. I’ll move different places. I’ll (hopefully) date a bit, then eventually settle down.

Since I’m still trying to break into my chosen field, I think a lot about the basic components that make up a happy life. From my vantage point (and not getting into a healthy love life or religion or anything else more complex), I see three components: friends/family, career, and location.

But which of the three matter most in terms of overall contentment? For example, would it be worth it to be away from the ones you love if you have a job you love in a city you love? Or would it be better to be nearer to family and friends in a city and occupation not suited to your dreams? Could I sacrifice my city dreams and familial nearness for the perfect career move? I’m sure the answers to these questions would vary from person to person. The problem is that I still don’t know the answers for myself.

Ideally, I’ll get to move to a city I love, near people I love, in a job I feel that I’m meant to do. I’m coming to the conclusion, though, that this may not be possible. I’m considering applying to a job fulfilling the above option three - great job, bad location, far from home. Would I be happy if I got it? I’m not sure, but I might have to pursue the dream job while I’m still young and unattached enough to learn through trial and error.
